FOX VALLEY MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

President: Barbara Froelich, NCTM

The Fox Valley Music Teachers Association was founded in 1976 and its’ present membership stands at 40 instructors. Members of the FVMTA are able to apply for for member scholarships, teacher enrichment grants and assist their students in applying for Heid Family Foundation Scholarships. The Green Bay Diocesan Music Educators Association invites all FVKTA teachers interested in having their students adjudicated in their private studios. FVMTA also has an extensive Resource Library for members, consisting of tapes, music, handbooks and other items of interest to keyboard teachers.

On January 24, 2004, FVMTA, in conjunction with the Fox Valley Symphony, sponsored the Annual Young Artists Competition and Junior Piano Concerto Competition.  The Junior Piano Division (grades 6-9), celebrating it's third year in existence, had 11 contestants.  The Fox Valley Symphony Young Artist Competition had 25 contestants--up considerably from last year.  This is the first year that one family won both the Junior and Young Artist Competitions!

FVMTA received 20 applicants for music scholarships this year.  Ten students received scholarships of $100.00, and two students received $50.00 scholarships.  Our thanks to Heid Music and Tom Goudy from Goudy Pianos for their continued generosity.

FVMTA sponsored "Music in the Mall" on December 13, 2003 at the Fox River Mall.  The sounds of Christmas music in the food court were welcomed by all and put everyone in a festive mood.

FVMTA joined with Lawrence Arts Academy teachers for a presentation by Mary Van De Loo entitled "Curriculum Based Instruction".

Believing that supporting our local arts groups is an important focus, FVMTA has made donations to the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra and to the new Performing Arts Center located in downtown Appleton.

Program meetings will be held at Heid Music Company; enter through the blue door from the back alley.  Free parking during meetings is available at First  United Method Church (325 E. Franklin Street) located one block behind Heid's (north), across the street.
