MTNA STUDENT COMPOSITION COMPETITION

The national program of auditions for all orchestral instruments, piano, organ, voice, guitar, and chamber music begins at the state level. Students may also enter an original composition. Students in most grade levels and collegians have the opportunity to compete for the generous cash prizes offered at the national level. All rules are detailed on the MTNA website.

ABOUT THIS COMPETITION

MTNA states the intent of the composition competition sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association is to encourage creativity and self-expression in student musicians through the art of composing and to recognize their achievements as well as the significant work of their teachers. Warner Brothers Publications, Inc., and The MTNA Foundation sponsor the competition. There are three stages of the competition: STAGE 1: State Competition; STAGE 2: East Central Division; STAGE 3: National Competition. At the State level, the winning composers are notified at least two weeks before the WMTA State Conference and  perform in the winners recital.
