Michibago Music Teachers Association held its first meeting in November of
1984. The first president was Teresa Weber. Current membership is
nineteen.
This includes piano, organ and voice teachers from Plymouth, Chilton, Cascade,
Oostburg, Brillion, Kiel and Fond du Lac as well as Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls.
Meetings are held the last Friday of September, November, January and
March, and the first Friday of May. Meetings are conducted in the home studios of
members and also Lakeland College. A social time begins at 8:30 a.m. with the business meeting at 9:00 a.m.
and the topic presentation at 10:30 a.m.
Since 1987, our association has given accompanying awards
to graduating seniors of area high schools. These certificates acknowledge the
contribution each student has made when they accompany their school's music program.
Area high school music instructors nominate the students for this accompanying
award.
Our association sponsors festivals and competitions for our
students. In the past we had had Sonatina festivals, Duet festivals,
Romantic Era festivals and many more. We have also given opportunities for
student growth through composing contests, poster contests and written report
contests.
New members are always welcome. Visitors are invited
to attend topics that they find of interest. Michibago strives to promote the
continuing education of all area music teachers.
Meetings are free to all members, non members are $5.00.
