ANNUAL LOCAL ASSOCIATION DUES: $3.00 Active Members $2.00 for Seniors/Students
Dr. Beth Gilbert and Anita Nashlund formed this group in 1985. Today the group consists of twelve members. SAMTA meets monthly throughout the school year at various members’ homes or local area businesses. Also, there is a student chapter at UW-Superior.
Each November participating teachers and their students perform at local area nursing homes. Treats and refreshments are served to the residents following the performances. This is a rewarding experience for all those involved.
Spring Auditions are held at UW-Superior. The 2001 auditions involved 10 instructors and 88 entrants. Auditions were performed in the areas of piano and violin.In May the group hosts a musical performance opportunity for students. In 1996 the group performed at Mariner Mall, in 1997 at J. W. Beecroft Coffee & Bookstore, in 1998 at the Superior Target store, and in 1999 at the Lake Superior Zoo. Local businesses have rewarded the students with ice cream cones, cookies, pop, chips, pencils, and free admission for performing.
